Otto’s Farms – Our First Egg

The day we collected our very first egg at Otto’s Farms marked a powerful milestone in our journey as livestock farmers. It was more than just an egg—it was the reward of months of planning, patience, discipline, and dedication to proper poultry management. This moment represents the successful transition from brooding chicks to healthy, productive laying hens, and it stands as a symbol of growth, learning, and faith in the process.

From the very beginning, every stage of raising our layers was handled with care and intention. We started by sourcing quality day-old chicks and providing them with a clean, well-ventilated brooding environment. Temperature control, clean water, balanced starter feed, and strict biosecurity measures were priorities from day one. As the chicks grew, we monitored their health closely, ensuring timely vaccinations, proper feeding schedules, and good hygiene within the poultry house. Each step was a building block toward this defining moment.

When the layers reached maturity, we transitioned them carefully into the laying phase, adjusting their nutrition to support egg production. Calcium-rich feed, clean nesting areas, adequate lighting, and minimal stress were all put in place to encourage healthy laying behavior. The farm was filled with anticipation as we watched for signs of readiness—reddened combs, increased activity, and nesting behavior. Then, one quiet farm morning, it happened: our first egg.

Holding that first egg was a deeply fulfilling experience. It confirmed that our systems were working, our birds were healthy, and our efforts were yielding results. It reminded us that farming is not rushed; it rewards consistency and care. That single egg carried the story of teamwork, resilience, and commitment to best practices. For us, it was proof that small beginnings can lead to sustainable success.

This moment also strengthened our confidence in supporting others who want to start poultry farming. The experience gained along the way—brooding management, feeding programs, disease prevention, and housing—now forms part of the practical knowledge we share through our consultancy and mentorship services. The first egg was not only a personal victory but a foundation for helping other farmers succeed.

Today, as our egg production continues to grow, we proudly look back at this moment captured in our gallery. It reminds us why we do what we do: to produce quality food, create opportunities, and build a reliable agricultural system rooted in responsibility and care. The first egg at Otto’s Farms will always remain a symbol of hope, progress, and the promise of greater harvests ahead.
